Dentistry Essentials 101: Toothbrush Care

Posted .

How well do you care for your toothbrush? The answer should be significantly. If you are not spending adequate time to ensure your toothbrush remains safe and free of contamination, you’re also running the risk of minimizing its benefits to your oral health care. Always make sure to care for your toothbrush, so it can keep your mouth clean while remaining clean at the same time. Here are some other tips to remember about caring for toothbrushes:

– Never share your toothbrush with others.

– Never use anyone else’s toothbrush.

– Always store your toothbrush in a safe, aired-out location when not in use. Make sure the brush is standing vertical and not laying on its face.

– To help prevent contamination, never store your toothbrush with other toothbrushes.

– Make sure that your toothbrush easily fits into your mouth.

– Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months as needed. When selecting a toothbrush, look for one that has soft bristles and a brush head that can fit into your mouth easily.

– If you’re struggling with traditional toothbrushes, consider the use of an easier to operate utensil such as an electric toothbrush.
